Australian Off-Grid Winery
Located on an environmentally sensitive piece of land, The new winery shed was built for off-grid production. 100% renewable energy, Solar and batteries for power, and harvested rainwater for our winery processes and grape growing.
Our sustainable journey was inspired by formative vintages working with Biodynamic and organic producers in Burgundy, Languedoc, Napa Valley, and Australian producers at the beginning of the 2000’s.
On home soil, we have been involved in many pioneering initiatives including;
- 2009 establishment of the “Freshcare”, and “Entwine” environmental standards for Australian Wine Industry
- 2011 recycled packaging covenant, including labels, cartons
- 2013/2014 Perth NRM Composting and organic bio stimulant trials
- 2015 Bioelectric – Biogas Anaerobic Digestion of winery wastes (proof of concept trial)
- 2020 Fully off-grid winery construction (one of the first in WA)
- 2026 Wine Forward – Climate Resilience Project with ClimAdapt and Wine Industry Assoc. WA
“ Adapting to environmental changes is as much about survival of our soils and vineyards as the viability of the business itself. By developing sustainable, long term strategies around renewable energy, varietal selection, and winemaking processes, we hope to develop competitive market advantage, resilience, and transparency to our consumers.” Winemaker/Owner, Matt Bowness
